Table Tennis by Paul Myers
In Division Two only two points covers the top three teams in the Aldershot and District Table Tennis League. Farnborough Tennis C beat club rivals Tennis B 7-3 to join them on 48pts at the summit. Graham Dickson was the main man winning all three with Brian Hartles and Graham Barson winning two each. In third place and only two points behind the joint leaders are Cody A who edged out Ash D 6-4. Dave Stenning bagged a maximum for Cody A with Nigel Tustin and Frank Winnard winning duos for Ash D. Fleet CC A beat a lowly Ash E 8-2 to maintain a mid table position with Chris Carter and Dave Joyce both trebling up. Tennis D beat bottom team Tennis E 7-3 with Paul Shakespeare and Neil Print claiming trebles for the D side. Tennis E are the only team in the division without a win or a draw this season and on that form the battle for relegation survival has already started.
The form teams in Division four are Frimley E and Cody D who are the joint leaders on 51pts. Frimley E are the only team not to have lost in the division and this week they thrashed a two man Tennis J 10-0 with David Mackinnon, Roger Whichelow and Paul Phelan all unbeaten. Cody D beat Bentley B 8-2 thanks to a John Asprey treble with Andy Stenning and Mick Strode doubling up. Ash H in fourth place beat Ash K 8-2 with Dave Phillips grabbing his usual maximum. Basil Warner and Roger Fletcher backed him up well winning two each with Ash K's John Hutchinson also doubling up. Fleet CC C just got past Ash J 6-4 with Roy Chittenden and Robert Brook winning two each for Fleet and George Carder and Josh Taylor doubling up for Ash. Congratulations go to Cody E who with two players grabbed their first win of the season by beating Farnham Cohesion B 7-3. Norrie Short and John Warburton won all three and the doubles for Cody.
Bourne B are stamping their class on Division Three now and have seven straight wins in a row after beating Tennis H 10-0. Andrew Barnard, Phil Larking and Peter Butler were all in top form and unbeaten on the evening. Tennis F are hanging tough in second but it can only be a matter of time before Broadmoor B go back into second spot as they are only three points behind them with two games in hand. Tennis F and Broadmoor B both won 6-4 this week against Frimley D and Tennis G respectively. Ron Wale was the star man for Tennis F winning all three with Bob Brown in maximum form for his losing side Tennis G. Frimley C beat Farnham Cohesion A 7-3 with Tony Harrison winning a trio and Anthony Connelly two for Frimley in response Dong Ming Lau won a brace for Farnham. Cody C and Ash G had a bottom of division clash with Cody C coming out the 7-3 winners. Cody's Dave Thomas and Bruce McPherson both gained full houses and left Ash G still searching for their first win of the season, with this result also tagging them as the relegation favourites.
Finally in Division One, Farnham Central A thrashed Tennis A 10-0 to go top of the pile. Phil Snelson, Paul Massey and Norman Swift all bagged maximums and were never really tested in the romp. On Centrals coat tails are Broadmoor A who are five points behind with two games in hand. Ash A in third place confirmed their position as the top Ash side by beating a two man Ash B 7-3 with Martin Townshend unbeaten for the A's. Nigel Care playing for Ash B won two on the evening, only just losing out 15-13 in the deciding fifth game against Townshend.
