Most of the matches over the Christmas break were in the divisional KO cups.
The Fourth Division Cup produced one of the tightest matches when Ash H entertained Tennis J. The match went to the ninth set after Dave Lewis and Graham Rudd had won twice apiece for Tennis. On the Ash side Ben Carr had won twice whilst Brian Lunn and Darren Milstead contributed one apiece. The ninth set pitted Carr against Rudd and it was the junior, Carr, who won through. Fleet B beat Ash J 8-1 with Rob Brook and John Allan unbeaten and Roy Chittenden winning a couple. Tennis H beat Frimley E 5-4 with no player unbeaten. John Page and Keith Johnson won twice for Tennis as did James Maxwell and Stephen Bridle for Frimley. Crawley Ridge B beat Ash G 6-3 with all the Crawley Ridge players, Peter Greenwood-Sleep, Richard Pape and Richard Hornby winning a couple as did Ash’s Bob Murrell.
Another tight KO Cup match was in the Third Division when Ash D entertained Crawley Ridge A. It looked as if it was going to be easy for the Camberley team when they took a 4-1 lead thanks to the efforts of Russell Gibbs and Ken Thompson. Les Knight pulled it back to 4-2 and then Dave Brown beat Thompson for the very first time to record a pair and with Knight beating Gibbs the decider was going to be decided between the two players who had lost both their matches. Corin Moore, for Crawley Ridge, proved too good for Margaret Thornton and Crawley Ridge edged into the semi-finals where they will meet Tennis F who won 7-2 against Cody D. Peter Killick was unbeaten for Tennis with colleagues Bob Brown and Paul Jarvis each winning twice but both lost to Cody’s Dean Hewitt. Frimley C easily beat Ash F 5-1 with both Derek Seager and Bob Walker undefeated. Ash E won 5-4 against Frimley D with Anthony Connelly undefeated for Frimley. Tom Gordon and Jo Bartlett each won twice for Ash.
Just one First Division Cup match completed with Central B beating a two-man Tennis C outfit 8-1. Andy Appleby and Robin Pretty won both their matches.
In the Second Division Cup Ash C whitewashed Tennis E. Nigel Tustin, Frank Winnard and Alan Gess being the victors. Fleet A also won easily, 5-0, against Cody B. Lawrence Dack, John Upham and David Joyce propelled the team into the semi-finals. Tennis D eased past Broadmoor B 5-4 with Robert Hawes unbeaten for Broadmoor and Dave Jarvis and Stuart Middlemiss bagging braces for Tennis. Broadmoor A were too strong for Frimley B, winning 6-3, but Pu Zhang, Dave Connelly and Keith Jones could not beat Frimley’s Hudson Foley who won all the Frimley points.
