There was a fair few matches played over the Christmas break in the Aldershot & District Table Tennis League, mainly Divisional Cup and those catching up on postponed League games, Central B and Frimley A met in the Div 1 cup and used this chance as a double header to count toward the league, a good decision for Robin Pretty who cantered to three wins for Central B, Frimley’s Robert Hawes picked up an excellent win over Dave Phelps but Central edged it 6-4 and advanced in the Cup, Central A eased past Ash A in the Div 1 Cup 5-1, Phil Snelson and Pete Millard each winning two out of two
Frank Winnard helped Ash C make to through to the next round of the Division 2 Cup, his three wins over Broadmoor B saw the home team make it through 5-2. In the League Peter Killick was the only man to register for Tennis E, his wins were the two in an 8-2 reverse at the hands of club mates Tennis C, Colin Baggott was unbeaten on the night, Tennis C also had to play their D team and they were surprisingly beaten 7-3 in an incredibly close contest in which 7 matches went to the fifth end. Neil Print was the difference between the two sides as he chalked up a titanic three.
Dave Phillips won both his games for Ash L, but they were the only successes as they were beaten 5-2 by Frimley F, Roger Whichelow and Kevin Bissell both recorded two wins, Ash K and Fleet CC C went down to the wire but it was Ash’s Ken Wan who easily beat Roy Chittenden for his third win of the tie and saw his side through 5-4. Two man Ash J were always up against it but after Brian Lunn was beaten 11-9 in the fifth by Denys Smithers in the first match of the night the writing was on the wall, Lunn won his other two games but Smithers led the way for Crawley Ridge to advance.
