The promotion and relegation races are hotting up as the Aldershot & District Table Tennis League reaches the final third of the season. An impossibly tight Second Division is at present being headed by Bentley B on 72 points but then three teams are locked on 71, Cody B, Frimley B and Fleet CC A, pointing towards an exciting run in for promotion to the promised land of Div 1. In fact there are only 12 points separating the top 8 which leaves Broadmoor B and Frimley both well adrift at the bottom, 36 points to be precise, these two have mustered only one win between them all season so are I’m afraid dead certs for relegation.
Challenor, being 10 points clear of second to bottom Tennis A, have the strength in depth to make sure there are no alarms but Tennis B sit a precarious three points above their stablemates at the wrong end of Division 1. Old Woking need a Herculean effort to make up the 11 points needed to haul in Tennis B but have a game in hand so all is not lost for the senior citizens of the Division who have brought a good level of fun and fair play to their, maybe, short stay. At the top end Bentley A have just about got the title in the bag for the second year running sitting a comfortable 18 points clear of second placed Central A.
Five teams are realistically still in the hunt for promotion out of the Third Division, Ash D with a game in hand on the top four are just 13 points adrift of leaders Tennis E, sandwiched between these two are Cody C, Tennis F and Frimley D so much like Div 2 it seems we are in for an enthralling climax. Cody D on 48 are slipping away but a couple of good wins could see them make up the 11 points to third bottom Ash F in no time, who themselves must be nervous of their own E team who are just 4 points away with two games in hand.
In the Fourth Division Tennis H and Ash J seem to be pulling well clear of the pack on 113 and 111 respectively, leaving Cody E the nearest challengers way back on 88 whilst Fleet CC D, having yet to notch a win this term, are propping up the lot 16 points shy of Ash G.
