Bentley A kept up their 100% start to the season with an 8-2 romp over bottom team Tennis A in Division 1 of the Aldershot & District Table Tennis league, Andy Mudie is also personally on 100% after another fine three, a feat matched by team mate Steve French. John Taylor however produced the performance of the night, coming from two legs down to beat Crispian Knight in five. Central A are slowly making their move up the table, impressive hat tricks from Paul Myers and Dennis Perrett seeing them to an 8-2 win over Ash B. Robin Pretty's hitting saw him to all three against Cody A and a 7-3 win for his Central B team, Peter Anthony chalked up an impressive win over Dave Phelps showing the mettle needed for Cody to stay in their current mid table spot. As yet unbeaten Clive Banham produced another maximum to lead Broadmoor A to an 8-2 victory against Ash A, the comeback of the evening gong however goes to the fast improving Scott Ayers (1) who in a titanic battle with Graham Diplock (2) recovered from two ends down to win the third, was then six match points down in the fourth to win that 12-10, and finally clinch the decider 11-9. A special mention must go to Graham who actually sportingly drew my attention to ths feat himself, singing Scott's praises as he did. Who says sportsmanship was dead? Me...I hate losing...
Tennis F are firmly in the driving seat at the top of Division 3 after a 10-0 whitewash over Cody D, Colin Baggott,Eliot TIlley and Paul Jarvis each winning all three. Frimley D beat their C team 8-2 and took second spot in the table, Bob Holmden fought hard for three wins and was supported well by Gary Nicholson and Robeen Roopun who both pouched two. Third place Ash E also produced an 8-2 derby win, over their F team, for whom Sany Simpson claimed both points. Dave Bentall was in treble form for the E team. Farnham Cohesion A leap frogged Tennis G after an 8-2 win, Nick Green (3), Gary Willingale (2) and Geoff Green (2) for Farnham and Graham Marshall (2) for Tennis were the point scorers. Dave Hewitt (2) produced the performance of the night in toppling the previously unbeaten Gordon Courtney (2) in five sets but in a classic match that saw seven matches go the distance he couldn't stop his Cody C team slipping to a 6-4 defeat at home to Tennis H. Bob Brown won three of those marathons for the victors.
Table toppers Fleet CC A paid the price of turning up with only two men in Division 3 as they could only manage a five all draw with Frimley B. Dave Joyce and Sameer Pathak both won two for Fleet but neither could get the better of that man Derek Seagar. Ash D took advantage of this slip to move within a point of top spot with a 7-3 win at Tennis D, Nigel Tustin and Frank Winnard both trebling up for Ash. Broadmoor B are yet to record a win but are still fourth in the table, after storming to a three nil lead they were pegged back by Cody B to a five all draw. Mark Armstrong was the star of the show with three for Broadmoor. Bottom side Frimley E slumped to an ominous 10-0 defeat at Bentley B, Bob Walker, Les Vaill and Andy Cunningham all racing to three wins.
Jeremy Fox breezed to a trio of wins for Fleet CC B in Division 4 as they beat Farnham Cohesion B 6-4 to edge to the top spot. Ash G are only two points behind with a game in hand after an 8-2 victory at Cody F, John Hutchinson and Brian Lunn both proved unbeatable on the night. Keith Johnson and John Page both won all three for Tennis J as they trounced Frimley F 9-1 and leapt up to third place. Cody E got the better of Ash H, a Bob Fenner hat trick taking them to a 7-3 win. Ash J whipped bottom side Ash K 9-1, Brian Lunn and George Carder won three each for the J team while John Hutchinson restored some pride after winning the final game of the night 11-9 in the fifth to spare his sides blushes.
